Method
How this estimate works
The calculator reduces a rectangular deck to two working dimensions: the span each board must physically cross and the dimension where rows stack. From there it calculates field boards, subtracts the picture frame inset when enabled, and totals fascia by exposed side.
Estimating note: this tool does not design the substructure. It does not calculate framing, stairs, rail, hidden fastener clips, or deck cost. Use the board counts as a material baseline before closing the full takeoff.

Splicing and waste
If the selected board length is shorter than the true span, the calculator flags the splice condition. That is usually where waste should move up into the 12% to 15% range.
